Life on the road is fun and we love living in remote places. That said, it can be tricky to access medical care.
Free Living
Our choice in lifestyle is not only to live in an RV full-time but also to live free. Free as in costs next to nothing but gas to get there, and away from “regular” society. That puts us in interesting places often 30 miles from a small town, post office, or corner store. It also means hundreds of miles from health care should we need it. This is not new to many people in our country – lots of small town folks, rural living people are in the same situation. The slight difference is we also don’t have a tie to a community or a small local medical facility or doctor.
Silver Lining
The pandemic may have a silver lining. Because of lockdowns, the situation for us and hopefully others in rural areas has improved. Andrew has medical through his employer and he has access to online/tele docs. I do as well through my Freedom Life insurance plan that we pay for out of pocket. When the pandemic reached Nevada in 2020 Andrew injured his finger when working on the Jeep.We were able to see a doctor at Urgent Care quickly because we happened to be in Reno. In this case, he needed x-rays and to see a doctor in person. That could have been a very long and painful ride if we were living somewhere else!
We Lived There!
All the locations in this post were places we lived for a week or two! This is what we LOVE about our lifestyle, even with the challenges.
