Working in my loft; Duluth winter outside.

About

From our cozy, 400-square-foot home shared with Andrew (husband) and our dog (Cocoa), I create quilts and other handmade textiles. My creative space is tucked into a small loft, where upcycled and new fabrics become quilts. Having journeyed to Duluth in a Motorhome that was our home for eight years, I quickly found a creative community, including joining and serving as Secretary and Webmaster for the Lake Superior Modern Quilt Guild (LSMQG). I am endlessly curious and find sameness and routine boring, so I love learning and doing new things.

Inspiration and Technique

My work comes from moments in time: memories, photographs, and everyday objects. The process begins as a meditation of sorts and includes some or all of the following: thinking, seeing, tracing, sketching, and/or "painting" with a palette of scrap fabrics until a concept is ready. In other instances, I select fabrics with only a loose idea and make use of scissors and a rotary cutter intuitively.

I'm often using improvisational techniques, allowing the cutting, piecing, embroidery, and quilting to evolve organically. My process is fluid; receiving feedback from others, I often decide to unpick, redesign, and re-sew, honoring the creative process.
