Do you have a collection of a loved one’s ties, a favorite outgrown outfit, grandma's hankerciefs, or small mementos like jewelry and beads tucked away in a drawer? Instead of keeping these memories in a box, let’s bring them into the light.
I will work with you to create a bespoke piece. This could be an art quilt, hand-pieced and embroidered wall hanging, or an embellishment on your favorite bag, sweatshirt, or denim jacket. We will incorporate the very fabric of your history into the piece. By blending traditional techniques with modern improv ideas, I turn personal textiles—clothing, plush toys, even dog collars—into unique, tactile works of art.
The Process
Creating a custom piece is a collaborative journey. To ensure your memory piece honors your memories, we follow this general process:
- Initial Consultation: We’ll meet via Zoom or in person (for those in the Duluth, MN area) to discuss your vision, the textiles you’d like to include, additional materials I may need to purchase for this project, and the desired size of the piece. A follow-up email will be sent to clarify the main points discussed and pricing in a statement of work/invoice.
- Textile Delivery: If you are local, you can meet me in town to hand off your materials (bringing them to the initial consultation) or ship them directly to my studio.
- Design & Feedback: I will create one or more layouts/concepts. We will connect via email for a second review to ensure the design aligns with your expectations before the deconstruction and official creation begin.
- The Creation: Once the design is approved, I’ll get to work on your final piece, meticulously piecing and stitching your story together.
Pricing & Payment
Because every piece is unique, pricing varies based on:
- The Complexity of Materials: Some textiles (like silk ties or delicate jewelry) require specialized handling and the use of stabilizers.
- The Level of Detail: Prices reflect whether the piece is primarily machine-pieced or requires extensive hand-embroidery and embellishment.
Accepted Payment Methods: Venmo, cash, or check.
