Minnesota quilt show class
A class with David Owen Hastings was available in Duluth, so I signed up and brought my chosen art. It was a painting by Betye Saar called Amid Hallucinary Moons. This quilt was fun to make following his technique of focusing in on small parts of the artwork, drawing small sketches from these areas, and then designing the quilt from that. David suggested that I use trapunto (the puffy areas) to add some depth and interest. I have found three-dimensional aspects to be a fun element to add to my quilts. This class is also where I learned that echo quilting can be very effective and also rather easy to do with a walking foot.
